Sea Scroll was the culmination of many years of thought and collection.

Calendars that never end have always fascinated me. Different cycles are starting and completing all around us, be they microseconds long, or decades. In effort to capture some of this ephemeral time, Sea Scroll was born. Gifted a trove of nautical charts, I pored over the materials, some familiar and some foreign. Remembering adventures as I looked, I discovered that I was using geographical locations to place times in my memory- contextual memory.

Using materials from literary as well as personal sources, Sea Scroll begins to unfurl, dropping quotations and reminisces, jogging both mind and imagination. In a unique way, this project leads one through the year, its right-hand tick marks clocking through day-by-day, though with no reference to specific day or month. Images and notations fill the field, indicating places, motions, techniques, and marlinspike seamanship, all with the goal of creating a full immersive experience for the viewer.
